Academic Olympiad

Brad competed in the Academic Olympiad at USU today. Judging from the number of medals he came home with I think it was a successful day. Davis High took first place in the overall competition and received several other medals for language arts, social studies and math. Brad also received an individual medal in social studies. What a smartie!
Great Job Brad!

We love to cook

As a family we love to cook together. Sometimes we find fun recipes we want to make together.

Sometimes we think of some random things to celebrate (like wizarding independence day) and then we find appropriate recipes for that day. Other times we think of creative ways to use what we grow in our garden like beets or tomatoes.

Last year we found a wonderful tomato soup recipe that we made a ton of. Now we have lots of tomato soup in our freezer for the long winter nights. Even our dog Amelia loves to get into the action. (I think that may be because we are a little bit messy and she's hoping to find a few morsels on the floor.)

Anyway-- it is something we enjoy doing as a family--isn't there something about a family that cooks together stays together.

One Year

It has been a little over a year since my mother's death. In some ways it seems like it was just yesterday that she passed away and in other ways it feels like she has been gone forever.
I miss you Mom.

Halloween

This is the first year in over 20 years that we haven't had someone dressing up to go trick-or-treating on halloween. I guess that means we are all growing up. But some traditions must go on like:

Homemade rootbeer
Stuffed Hamburgers for dinner
and carving Jack-o-lanterns

A New Eagle

Michael had his board of review last night and he is officially an Eagle Scout now.
Great Job Michael!
We'll have his court of honor in a few months--that is the fun part.

David is Home!

Okay I know that this post is months late but better late than never.

We were so excited that David was really on his way that we were at the airport plenty early and had lots of time to relax and wait for him. He was supposed to have come home two days earlier but due to some mix-ups in his travel arrangements we felt like we spent a lot of time waiting.
This is our very first view of the cute missionary.

Lucky Mom got the first hug.
Everyone is happy!

David and his traveling companion
A very, very happy family

On the way home we stopped and visited the Grandpas.

Happy to be home

A few of our Brazilian treasures. The best treasure of all is to have David home--we love that boy!

Its May, its May, the lovely month of May!

Because it was several months ago I don't quite remember why we had this tea party (herbal tea of course)--but I do remember that we had a great time together.
A few years ago during an adventure to the "DI" everyone picked out their own unique tea cup. So we occasionally find an excuse to use them.

The reading of the tea leaves--what does it all mean?

A little piano duet--more family fun
